I'm in Love

At least she'll never answer no to the question 'did the earth move for you?'

Us and Them

Notwithstanding arguments about what is humane and what is not, that method of slaughtering a pig is remarkably inefficient and results in spoiled meat, which no amount of spices and cooking can disguise. Few in the west can wonder how it was our ancestors conquered theirs.

I'm an admirer of the pig, and a willing consumer of everything obtained from him; I think, however, that for his sake, and that of our taste buds, he should be despatched with as little fuss as possible, and not within sight or hearing of his fellows.

Mal fait, as my French master used to remark of my efforts in his field.

Juicy Lucy

A band I haven't heard for more than forty years, and whose name I had forgotten:

.

I've just remembered that a Miss Lucy was a teacher at the primary school I attended between 1963 and 1967. She was known as 'Juicy Lucy'. She married Mr Mullins, a jowly, red faced man who favoured a hairstyle that would have caused concern before the war. We feared him not because we were insufficiently developed to counter a wit that could only cut a child of eleven or younger but because he found pleasure in picking his nose, rolling the product of same into a ball and flicking it, without warning, at whomever he had singled out.
